New Assignment: Abstract Photography

Presentation on Cropping
Part 1: Tutorial: Cropping to keep Aspect Ratio of Photographs
 

Part 2: Tutorial: Showing 4 different approaches to cropping in a Word Document (see below)
Cropping is an important tool that does more than just cut out unwanted elements from your photo. REQUIRED

1.     Crop unwanted or unnecessary things from your photo. 
2.     Avoid the “BULL'S EYE” Crop an image so that the main subject is in the “Rule of Thirds” area. 
3.     Find the picture inside the picture. Crop the photo so that you create interesting negative space and focus on the shape of the subject matter
4.     Crop the photo so that you change the orientation (vertical or horizontal) of the image.

Word Document: Crop photos using the guidelines above an insert the before and after images  into the Word document. Try to use the method in the tutorial below so that you keep the aspect ratio (proportions) of the original photograph. Your word document will show 4 different cropping methods with before and after and labeled.
Turn in to Dropbox when complete.

Analyzing Photographs: Learning to READ a photograph
Directions: 
  • Get into pairs or a group no larger than 3
  • As a group, choose a photo below.
  • As a group, answer the questions on the worksheets (make sure to put your names and photo number on the sheet).
  • ​Share and compare group responses to photos

Students will learn to look closely and critically at photographs to be able to demonstrate an understanding of description, reflection, and formal analysis of a work of art.

The grid over laid on this photos shows how you want to try to place the horizon line and any focal points outside of the center bullseye of the photo. Decide if you want you image mostly land or mostly sky.

  2. Add your name (how you would want it on an art show tag) to the CORRECT TAB for your class. 
  3. Sign on and open up your Weebly website>Click on the Orange PUBLISH button >click on the blue url link to go to your published site>select your url and copy it>paste the url into the Google Sheet next to your name​
Expanding your digital darkroom skills
These tutorials will expand your skills and show you how to do cool things with photography. Turn in a finished image to Dropbox to receive credit for your work. I prefer you work with your own photos than ones from the
internet.
